"I don't think anyone's parents would mean something like that." -Yanagi Takayama
At the start of the episode, we get a little insight into the reason Kakeru transferred schools. Kakeru's parents are seperated (or divorced this much isn't clear yet), and he is now living with his father. Kakeru's mother is a famous pianist. It seems that his father still cares for his mother because the music he listens to turns out to be Kakeru's mother playing the piano. Could she have left to pursue her passion for music?
Side Note: I think this series opening is my favorite from this series. It is so catchy.
Yanagi's hopes are further crushed initentiionally by Yukinari. Yanagi sprained her leg on the hiking trip from last episode, and she had to go to the hospital to get patched up. Yukinari came to help her out; calling her his family. These are the most crushing words to hear when you love someone, and she is devastated.
Touko and Yanagi have a conversation about Yukinari and how he confessed his feelings to Touko. We already know at this point that Yanagi has feelings for Yukinari, and I begin to realize how confusing it is trying to keep all these relationships straight. So after realizing this, I decided to waste 30 minutes making a love diagram to make things easier.
The next scene we get to see the relationship between Hato and Sachi grow. Unlike the other relationships, I can actually see something developing from this one. As of this point, these two characters are my favorite. I love Hato's earnest, clumsy nature. You can see he truly cares about Sachi. He finally gets the nerve to ask her out on a date, and they make plans to go to the movies. I'm rooting for you Hato!
Yukinari and Touko meet at their school. We get to see that Yukinari truly cares about Touko, but she is too good of a friend to Yanagi to ever be more than friends with him. As Yanagi is walking home, it begins to rain. Kakeru sees this and gives her his pancho so she can stay dry, and they start to talk. Yanagi falls onto Kakeru because of her sprained ankle. LE GASP!! Touko sees this and mistakes it for something more!
At the end of the episode Hato and Sachi go on their movie date.......and Hato falls asleep in the movie. WAY TO GO!!!!
It is easy to see this is a series focused on characters. So far, the seeing/hearing the future element has not played a huge role which is disappointing. I hope over time this plot point will be explored more. As for the character relationships, many of them are contradictory. I can see this series becoming a huge feels-fest by the end, and to be honest, this is what I am actually hoping for. It has been awhile since I watched an anime that really gave me "the feels." I hope this ends up feeling that void.
